Dopo una lunga malattia ha chiuso gli occhi per sempre uno dei Presidenti più discussi della storia biancazzura.
Il destino per lui ha cucito un altro lembo a colori di un abito che l'imprenditore di Bellante ha cercato a lungo di nascondere. Infatti, dopo 2 giorni dall’assoluzione dal maxiprocesso che lo vedeva imputato, dal 2010, di evasione fiscale insieme al socio Luca Cantoresi, Paterna é uscito di scena per sempre. La sua esperienza al vertice del sodalizio pescarese é stata, a dir poco, tormentata. "Dante da Bellante" come veniva chiamato dai tifosi del Delfino, é diventato presidente del Pescara nel 2004, dopo la cessione da parte del gruppo Scibilia-Oliveri. Da lì in avanti per i colori biancazzurri é stata una vera Odissea fino al triste epilogo del fallimento. Il Delfino Pescara é risorto da quelle ceneri dopo il famoso salvataggio della locale cordata di imprenditori che, anche se oggi radicalmente cambiata, continua a tenere ad assicurare calcio nella città adriatica. ...Da 40 anni esatti (mia prima volta all'Adriatico, nel 1974) seguo con amore il Biancazzurro, e Paterna (non sapevo stesse male) è stato senz'altro il presidente peggiore. Inizialmente mi era piaciuto molto, poi col suo operato ha smascherato i veri motivi per cui aveva rilevato il Pescara, ed è stato il principale artefice del fallimento. Ho criticato aspramente il suo operato e chi lo ha sostenuto (non senza conseguenze ma va bene così...) ma la notizia, forse anche perché da me inattesa, mi intristisce profondamente. RIP Dante Paterna. Anche se lo sei stato in modo degenere, sei stato comunque uno dei nostri...
